QAA discussion paper about doctoral programmes

A year on from the formal deadline for responses to the doctoral discussion paper published electronically on QAA’s website, we are aware that we should provide some feedback to the sector on progress made so far with analysing your responses. The discussion paper is still available for reference:

(published for consultation May-July 2007)

We are delighted with the volume and quality of the feedback and would like to thank all those who submitted a response. The submissions are thoughtful, positive, creative and intellectually rigorous and we are genuinely appreciative of the efforts made to respond.

A total of 72 replies to the consultation were received, the majority of which were from UK academic institutions (53); others were from professional, statutory and regulatory bodies (4), or other higher education-related organisations (7), or from professional groups (3), and individual academic staff employed in universities (5).

We have produced full analysis of responses to Questions 1, 7, 8, 9 and 10. An interim paper was also written in September 2007 for the working group revising the FHEQ, which provides a summary of preliminary analysis of responses to questions 7-10.
