QAA and the Higher Education Academy (HEA) have a mutual interest in the quality and enhancement of learning and teaching in higher education. We regularly meet on different levels to share views, information and perspectives, and to identify and conduct joint activities.
We have worked together on a number of occasions, for example:
- QAA contributed to the Academy-JISC funded Benchmarking and Pathfinder programmes and provided advisory support for the Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement in e-Learning Special Interest Group.
- HEA's Subject Centres participated in QAA's survey work on employer responsive provision
- QAA and HEA ran two joint projects on quality enhancement and assurancein England and in Wales.
- The Subject Centre Network and HEA are represented on QAA's advisory groups for Subject benchmark statements and for the Code of practice.
Drawing on our particular perspectives and expertise, QAA and HEA are currently working jointly to address some of the recommendations concerning external examining and the assessment of student work. These recommendations were made in QAA's recent Thematic enquiries report regarding academic standards and quality in higher education in England.
Liaison with the HEA Subject Centre Network
Since 2006, QAA has sponsored annual Working Together conferences for senior staff from HEA's Subject Centre Network, in order to share information and exchange views about contemporary issues in higher education. This is supported by a liaison scheme between named QAA officers and individual Subject Centres.
