Dear Colleague
I wrote to you just before Easter bringing you up-to-date with QSN developments since our Annual Conference in Nottingham last Autumn.
This is a further update and is intended to keep you as fully informed as possible on QSN matters, and to invite your ideas and suggestions.
Annual conference
As I mentioned in the April Newsletter, the Annual Conference will be held at the Aston Conference Centre on 27/28 September 2007. Please look out for the “flyer” and booking form which we hope will be with you at the end of May. Attendance at the Annual Conference is limited to one person per Institution, normally the corresponding member, although s/he may be represented by an appropriate alternative. The so called “smaller” events will not, subject to availability of places, be restricted to one Institutional representation.
AGM
The AGM of the QSN will be held at the Annual Conference. I explained the composition of the Executive Committee in the April Newsletter. There will be 7 vacancies for election to the 2007/08 Committee. If you would like to stand for election at the AGM (ballot forms will be made available) please let me have by 31 July your name, Institution and designation, and the name, Institution (not your own!) and designation of a supporter, together with your brief CV which will be available at the AGM. Please use the CV “format” adopted by current Executive Committee members that accompanied the April Newsletter.
QSN Subscription
Please remember to arrange payment of your Annual Subscription of £150 for 2007/08 as soon as possible. I have attached another copy of the proforma for your convenience. You will appreciate that QSN needs this modest subscription to be financially viable and to be in a position to subsidise some events.
JISC mail
Thank you to colleagues who have let Jack Aitken have contact details for our JISC communication system. This has now been set up; I would be grateful if all Institutional representatives could let Jack have their electronic addresses at j.aitken@glasgow.ac.uk. We have decided to limit this to one name per Institution to avoid overloading mail boxes, but please feel free to share appropriate QSN information with your colleagues.
Smaller events
We have arranged a now fully subscribed “smaller” event at Norwich in June on “Understanding and Managing Student Expectations”, and are planning one on the review of ELIR in Glasgow in Spring 2008 and on European developments in Plymouth in Summer 2008. We would be delighted to learn of your suggestions as other topics and offers to organise and host such events. Please let me know whenever you have workshop/seminar ideas.
And ....................
In addition to responding to the various requests above, please let members of the Executive have any suggestions on the future of QSN, ideas for events, views on QSN communications and information you think will be of interest to QSN colleagues.
I look forward to communicating with you through JISC and to meeting as many of you as possible at our Annual Conference in Aston.
With best wishes.

Peter Bush, Chair, QSN
