Round table discussion meeting on
‘UK master’s: 2010 and beyond’

20 December 2007
Universities UK, Woburn House, 20, Tavistock Square, London, WC1H 9HQ

QAA organises ‘round table’ discussion meetings concerned with the quality and standards of higher education (HE) and the way they are reported on publicly. The Europe Unit aims to raise awareness of the European issues affecting UK HE and coordinates the UK’s involvement in European initiatives and debates.

A discussion event has been planned to explore the impact of the UK within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) on the delivery of UK master’s awards across HE institutions and academic disciplines.

The meeting is intended to provide an opportunity for discussion between senior practitioners within HE institutions, notably those with responsibility for managing academic quality and standards and subject specialists involved in the design and delivery of programmes, and those associated with institutions, including professional, statutory and regulatory bodies (PSRBs). The invitation is extended to representatives from the HE and research funding councils who may have an interest in these discussions. The meeting offers a forum for discussion of key issues or concerns relating to the UK within the EHEA and its impact on UK master’s.

Following the QAA consultation event on master’s benchmarking in February 2006, feedback will be sought on a draft generic reference point for UK master’s.

The results from the meeting will inform ongoing discussions of the UK within the EHEA. Feedback on the draft new reference point for UK master’s will be used in its further development. A later draft will be subject to sector-wide consultation.

Total attendance will be limited to 150 people and early booking is advised. A maximum of one representative from a single institution or organisation will be accepted.
