Academic credit is awarded to students who have shown that they have successfully completed a module, unit or qualification. Credit has been used by many universities and colleges in the UK for a number of years, allowing students to have their learning and credits recognised by different institutions in different parts of the UK.
Higher education credit framework
Following the publication of the Burgess Group report on proposals for national arrangements for the use of academic credit in higher education in England, a Credit Issues Development Group (CIDG) was established to refine the arrangements for a national credit framework and to publish accompanying guidance.

The CIDG comprises QAA, Universities UK, GuildHE, the Higher Education Funding Council for England, and other relevant practitioners and representatives.
Relationship to the FHEQ
QAA has published a statement to outline the relationship between the credit framework and The framework for higher education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (FHEQ) and how both frameworks relate to academic standards. They are both an integral part of quality assurance in higher education and institutions use them in planning, delivering and monitoring their study programmes. More >>
