QAA supports the Guardian’s fourth annual higher education summit

QAA has again agreed to support the Guardian’s fourth annual conference entitled ‘The future of higher education’. The event will take place on 11-12 March 2010 at the America Square Conference Centre in London.

The event offers an outward-looking forward-thinking summit stimulating debate and shaping thinking on rising to the challenges facing higher education. The combination of the fiscal crisis and imminent reductions in public service budgets coupled with significant changes in the demands faced by institutions means that the way forward for higher education has become increasingly contested.

This year the event will bring together higher education leaders for a series of debates that will explore future scenarios for the shape and structure of the sector. Led by key stakeholders and shaped by expert analysis the debates will be supplemented with in-depth panel discussion, focused breakout sessions and insightful keynotes.

Stephen Jackson, Director of Reviews at QAA, has agreed to chair one of the breakout sessions focusing on the student experience. This session will look at how institutions can protect the quality of their students’ experience in light of significant budget constraints and how the increased focus on quality and student experience interplay with the marketisation of the sector. It will also explore how the outcomes will be affected if the disparity between student experience in different institutions widens? Prof Paul O’Prey, vice-chancellor, Roehampton University will jointly chair this session with Anthony and will be facilitated by Anna Fazackerley, head of education, Policy Exchange.
