QAA enters into agreement with Danish counterparts
The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) will be establishing closer working relations with its Danish counterparts, the Danmarks Evalueringsinstitut (Danish Evaluation Institute (EVA)), from today when both organisations sign a Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement will see QAA and EVA work together to enhance the operation of external quality assurance and improve the quality of higher education in the UK and Denmark.
Peter Williams, Chief Executive of QAA, and Christian Thune, Executive Director of EVA, will sign the Memorandum in Gloucester during a visit by Professor Thune. The Memorandum will take effect from 8 September 2006.
Peter Williams says: 'I am delighted to be formalising our longstanding relationship with the Danish Evaluation Institute through this Memorandum. We firmly believe that developing these relationships with organisations responsible for quality assurance in higher education across the world will help us develop our knowledge and skills for the benefit of UK higher education'.
QAA and EVA have been collaborating on international projects for a number of years. One such project is an evaluation of chemistry programmes in Danish and some UK universities. The project's purpose is not only to test the new European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education but also to share good practice.
QAA values the relationships it has with other international quality assurance organisations. Among these it also has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Higher Education and Training Awards Council in Ireland, Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (National Accreditation Board) in Malaysia, and the Higher Education Quality Committee of the Council on Higher Education in South Africa.
