QAA expert information provides help for students in clearing

For thousands of students working their way through clearing, finding the best course can be a daunting process. Faced with an ocean of paper and other media information it is difficult to know where to turn for unbiased information to help make an informed life-changing decision.

Help is at hand however from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), the public watchdog of standards and quality in higher education. In collaboration with the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), QAA has produced impartial guidance to set students on the right path to finding the ideal course in a guide called ‘How do I find the best course for me?’.

The guide is packed with answers to the questions that applicants and their parents ask: which qualification and subject to choose? Is the course with the highest entry requirements necessarily the best? Should you choose with your head, heart or your wallet? An electronic version of the guide can also be downloaded from the student area of the QAA website at www.qaa.ac.uk/students/guides/bestcourse

Also available on the website are the results of QAA’s institutional reviews. The impartial information in these reviews can help students understand how universities and colleges are fulfilling their responsibilities in ensuring the quality of their degrees and awards.

“Families invest a great deal of time and money in higher education,” says Peter Williams, Chief Executive of QAA. “We are the experts on standards and quality in UK higher education and we can help applicants make the best choice for their future.”
