The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has today launched the first podcast interview with Chief Executive Anthony McClaran, which reveals what attracted him to the role, the challenges he sees ahead and his vision for the future.
Conscious of the funding constraints in higher education, Anthony says: ‘There will be a real obligation for all of us working in higher education to look very closely at the most effective use of resource and tying that to the achievement of objectives that the public, taxpayer and our stakeholders rightfully expect from us’. Anthony also reflects on the Government’s higher education framework and the areas of focus for QAA.
In speaking about where he hopes to see QAA in five years time, Anthony emphasises the importance of clear and accessible communication with the public and potential students and envisages ‘a high awareness of the key role QAA plays in assuring quality and helping institutions to assure quality and standards in higher education’.
This podcast is the first in a new series which will cover a range of topical issues in higher education.
