QAA launches new guide to Institutional audit for student representatives
A new guide launched today will help students in England and Northern Ireland to learn more about how quality is assured in higher education institutions.
Published by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), Institutional audit: a guide for student representatives gives advice on how students can become involved in different aspects of the process. It explains what Institutional audit involves, how it works and what the audit team looks for, and gives example of the types of evidence to include in a student written submission.
Anthony McClaran, QAA’s Chief Executive, said ‘This guide is aimed at encouraging understanding of quality assurance and I hope it will bring even greater participation from students. Our audit teams in England and Northern Ireland now include student auditors and the contributions we receive from students and student bodies are invaluable in gaining a broad view of how an institution is performing.’
The new guide is available via the QAA website and in printed form on request.
The guide for student representatives complements a series of short films and a mini guide to Institutional audit for students, which were launched recently to highlight the importance of students taking a leading role in assuring the quality of their own education.
Case studies that give examples of how students at different higher education institutions produced their student written submission for Institutional audit are also available via the QAA website.

- QAA checks how UK universities maintain their own academic standards and quality. We review and report on how they meet their responsibilities, identify good practice and make recommendations for improvement. We publish guidelines to help UK universities and colleges develop effective systems to ensure students have the best learning experience.
