QAA works with the Department for Employment and Learning and the higher education institutions to maintain the quality and academic standards of the higher education sector in Northern Ireland.

As there is a small higher education presence, we have adopted the same institutional audit method as for England. In autumn 2008, we carried out a consultation on the draft method for the review of higher education in further education colleges in Northern Ireland. The consultation for Developmental review closed in November 2008. The report of the consultation and the final version of the handbook are now available.

New activities in Northern Ireland

QAA has been asked by the Department for Employment and Learning to introduce IQER in full in colleges in Northern Ireland from academic year 2010-11.

We are currently consulting on a Draft operational description for Integrated quality and enhancement review of higher education in colleges of further education in Northern Ireland. Read more >>
