Who supported you at the College?

An external facilitator was invited to conduct a focus group. There was one event. The outcomes were written up by the external facilitator and endorsed by the students who attended.

Methodology

The group comprised a cross section of students studying HE courses on a full and part-time basis. The representatives were nominated by their peers to carry forward the views of students on their course.

The group was supplied with the QAA IQER guide for student representatives on IQER and given an insight into the work of QAA and the IQER process.

We were happy that the college had arranged an event for us to get together and share our views as this was the easiest way to collate our responses. This event was coordinated by a person external to the college so we felt confident that we could be frank with our comments. The college supplied assistance with coordinating the comments and compiling the report which we hope will be of interest to the reviewers.

Structure of the student written submission

The report was structured under the following headings:

  • The college in general
  • Before coming to the college as an HE student
  • In the first week at college
  • How the college deals with learning difficulty/disability
  • How tutors convey to students how they are progressing with the course
  • How the college makes information on financial help available
  • How teaching staff perform
  • What teaching accommodation is like
  • Getting our views known
  • Work placements
