The Advisory Committee on Degree Awarding Powers (ACDAP)
ACDAP is responsible for overseeing the current degree awarding powers and university title criteria and associated scrutiny processes, and to make periodic recommendations on their development to the QAA Board, as appropriate. They also consider institutional applications seeking degree awarding powers and/or university title.
ACDAP dates
ACDAP normally meets at quarterly intervals in mid to late March, June, September and December each year. In 2010-11, ACDAP will meet on the following dates:
- 30 September 2010
- 14 December 2010
- 17 March 2011
- 10 June 2011
Membership
ACDAP comprises 13 members, with at least three who are also members the QAA Board. The Chair of ACDAP is the Chair of the QAA Board. Membership of ACDAP is structured to ensure that it includes three Vice-Chancellors, including at least one head of a pre-1992 university and at least one head of a post-1992 university; one head of a non-university higher education institution; three senior members of higher education institutions (Pro Vice-Chancellors or equivalent); and two other persons (other than the Chair of the Committee) with experience of sectors of employment that are significant recruiters of graduates.
In addition, ACDAP will invite appropriate observers from:
- the Department for Business Innovation and Skills
- the Department for Employment and Learning Northern Ireland
- the Welsh Assembly Government Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills
- the Scottish Government, Education and Lifelong Learning Department Directorate
- QAA (normally the Director of Reviews).
The Secretary to ACDAP will be the Head of Degree Awarding Powers and University Title.

Appointment to ACDAP
Members are invited to serve on ACDAP for three years in the first instance, and may be re-appointed for a further period of three years. All appointments and re-appointments are made by the QAA Board.
