Types of review

A key part of QAA’s role is to review and report on how universities and colleges of higher education maintain academic standards and quality. We carry out reviews using a variety of methods depending on the country and type of institution. All current methods are listed below by country.

England

• Institutional audit is the review process for higher education institutions in England and Northern Ireland.
• Collaborative provision audit looks at how institutions with degree awarding powers maintain the standards of their awards delivered at other colleges or organisations.
• Integrated quality and enhancement review (IQER) is the review method for higher education delivered in further education colleges.
• Access to Higher Education is the method used to review Access validating agencies (AVAs) to award certificates and diplomas to students.
• General Osteopathic Council review

Wales/Cymru

• Institutional review / Adolygiad sefydliadol is the review process for higher education institutions in Wales.
• Developmental review in Wales / Adolygiad datblygiadol yng Nghymru is the method for higher education delivered in further education colleges.
• Access to Higher Education / is the method used to review the AVA is to award certificates and diplomas to students.
• General Osteopathic Council review

Northern Ireland
