Outcomes from institutional audit

To give institutions, their staff, students, and other stakeholders in higher education access to timely information on the broad outcomes of institutional audits, QAA publishes short working papers under the generic title Outcomes from institutional audit.

The papers provide thematic analyses of aspects of the work of institutions described and evaluated in the audit reports, using the features of good practice and recommendations. Features of good practice are listed for a particular theme by institution and those which share common aspects are grouped together for further discussion. Outcomes papers do not list recommendations in the audit reports in the same way as features of good practice, but they do identify common themes among the recommendations for analysis and further discussion to give institutions information about commonly encountered difficulties encountered in the audit reports.

The first series of papers is based on the 70 institutional audit reports published by the end of November 2004. The second series draws on the institutional audit reports published from December 2004 to August 2006 using the same topics as the first series. Papers in each series are perhaps best seen as 'work in progress'. Although QAA retains copyright in the contents of the papers they can be freely downloaded and cited, with acknowledgement. Papers in the second series will be published from May 2007 onwards.
